1. The Galley

1h

Established in 1934, the Galley was the first restaurant to open on Main Street and is one of the very oldest in Santa Monica. It's beloved by locals and known for seafood, but don't overlook the salads - the Galley's longtime owner bought the restaurant partially because of the super-secret salad dressing recipe. Reservations are always a good idea.

2. Aero Theatre

1h

The 1940 Aero Theatre was built by the Douglas Aircraft Company to provide entertainment for its employees and used to run movies around the clock during wartime to accommodate all three work shifts. These days, it's the home base of American Cinematheque, showing sneak previews, special screenings, revivals, and panels. Check the schedule to see what's playing and when; evening screenings take place most days, but matinees only occur on select weekend days. When checking the schedule, be sure to filter by location. Otherwise the schedule will also show results for American Cinematheque's other venues, and you don't want to accidentally buy tickets for a screening across town at the Los Feliz.

3. Karaoke at the Gas Lite

1h

Opened in 1962, the Gas Lite is an unassuming, windowless neighborhood dive bar with cheap drinks - and it also happens to be one of LA's best karaoke spots. Drink, dance, or sing for an hour...or two...or befriend the regulars and stay until last call! Anything can happen at the Gas Lite…pop star Jewel even sang her own songs here in disguise.
